The holidays are thought to be a time of sharing, compassion and giving to others. Unfortunately, we often leave out being compassionate to ourselves. This can result in high levels of stress, depression and addictive behaviors.
Despite common beliefs, self compassion is not self serving, self indulgent or self centered. It is about recognizing mindfully that we are suffering and embracing these true feelings and giving support to ourselves in the same way we would to others. When we recognize our own imperfections and love all of ourselves, we move from an external focus of control to an internal focus of control. We become empowered.
So, give yourself a present this year and take the time to learn more about how to practice self-compassion. Visit self-compassion.org to learn more.
It is the best gift you will receive.
